Honey Soy Shishito Peppers

Shishito Final

I’m gonna keep this one short and sweet – partly because it’s way past my bedtime as I am writing this and partly because this recipe is so easy and requires so little effort that you’re going to hop off the couch and make this immediately afterwards.

After a couple of hot yoga classes and several attempts to get back into running, my mind and body are trying to make healthier decisions. When spring is bringing in ramps and other colorful items, it’s actually not hard at all. For this vegetable recipe, I’ve got shishito peppers to inspire your next round of grocery shopping.

Did I mention that this lovely sweet and salty snack only requires six ingredients? Six. That’s it. Honey and soy sauce are the complimentary flavors to these beautiful green peppers.

Like I said, they are so easy to cook and they are such a tasty snack and you can make more to serve as appetizers at your next dinner party. Shishito peppers are generally a very easy ingredient to work with, and I’ve got another recipe here.

Honey Soy Shishito Peppers
By W.
Makes about 1.5 cup

2 cups shishito peppers
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon honey
Oil (I used canola)
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
Sesame seeds

Wash shishito peppers and let them dry thoroughly before cooking. Mix soy sauce and honey together in a bowl.

Over medium heat, coat a skillet thinly with oil. Add shishito peppers and sauté and stir for about 6-7 minutes, or until the skin is slightly charred. Add garlic and stir; cook for 1 minute. Finally, add the soy-honey mixture and cook for one more minute.

Serve immediately and garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

Wasn’t that easy?
