  • 5 Best Dessert Recipes for Fall

    leili bench

I adore Fall. But what I love even more is the chance to finally bake all the things that make me feel the warm and fuzzies. ‘Tis the season for comfort food, and it’s something I look forward to all summer long.

But today, I must admit defeat.

I don’t want to ever lie to you and pretend that I have everything all together all the time. Or any of the time. Because I really, really don’t.

  • Vegan Noodle Soup with Garlic Ginger Oil

    noodle-bowl

I’m back with more date night ideas. This one involves cuddling up on the couch with a giant sweater on while slurping on some hot soupy noodles. Sounds amazing, right?

You guys know I love a good noodle soup, not the Western kind of noodle soup. You know, like chicken noodle soup. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love chicken noodle soup. But I’m talking about the kind that’s a little closer to ramen or pho. The kind where the noodles and soup make up the main foundation of the dish. That kind of noodle soup. (more…)

  • Dublin, Ireland

    cliffs-of-moher-and-clover

After ten days of frolicking around Ireland, I’ve come back to share my adventures with all of you. More importantly, I’m going to tell you all about the food I ate and where I ate it, and all of the fun things I did. That way you have something to go off of when you’re planning your own trip to the Emerald Isle (which I highly recommend you do).

I was traveling on my own, so I booked a bed at the Generator Hostel in Dublin, and I’m glad I didn’t spring for a hotel – I felt totally at home at the hostel. It was far enough away from the touristy area of town, but close enough to walk to pretty much everything worth seeing. The Jameson Distillery, which was right next door to the hostel, was on the top of my list of things to do – unfortunately, it was undergoing some changes and won’t reopen for tours until March 2017.

  • Apple Cider Pork Chops

    cider-pork-chops

I am blankly staring at my screen, tired and grumpy. These earlier almost autumn evenings got me feeling lethargic by 9 o’clock. I want my energy back, but I much prefer the cooler temps. Maybe I should just move to Iceland since they have 20 hour days in the summer and the temperature is still right for sweater weather. Yup, I’m moving to Iceland.

Sorry, I got carried away. I miss my vitamin D.

If you do feel like cheering me up, you can pick me up in your car and we can see the beautiful foliage or we can go apple picking after inhaling several cider donuts. I’ll repay you with my lovely company. I’m charming, I swear. (more…)

  • Giant Cinnamon Roll with Caramelized Pears

    Skillet Cinnamon Roll with Pears

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a ‘put-on-your-fat-pants’ recipe. But seeing as I’m really excited for pear season and the days are supposed to be getting cooler, I think you need this one.

Buttery Skillet Cinnamon Roll with Caramelized Pears

I don’t think I have to do much convincing here. I mean, it’s a giant, buttery cinnamon roll. Who are we kidding? (more…)

  • Loaded Shakshuka

It’s Friday! Or rather, Fri-yay! It’s been a long week, guys. I haven’t been getting much sleep this past week. I can blame it on my lifelong preference for nocturnal activities, or I can blame it on Pablo Escobar. Yes, “Narcos” has me stuck in bed, refusing to close my eyes because the chase for the kingpin is too suspenseful to turn away from. I think I’ll be the victim of “Chef’s Table France” next. I definitely have TV show FOMO.

But the weekend is here and I’m ready to get out of bed for good brunch food. Bring me all the eggs, please. Mimosas not optional. (more…)

  • Handmade Carrot Pasta with Carrot Top Pesto

    Carrot Pasta and Pesto

When I was a little thing and hadn’t yet learned to make my own dinner, my mother had the impossible task of whipping something up that my picky palate would actually accept as edible.

Most of the time I just sucked it up and ate what was in front of me so that I would be allowed to have ice cream for dessert. Of the few dishes that I would eat without complaint, pasta and hot dogs were my all time favorites. It’s a good thing I didn’t cook for myself or else that would be all I ate.

    Boston Organics Carrots

So when my mom wanted to easily sneak some vegetables into me, she’d usually make soup (if a kid can’t see what they’re eating, they can’t complain, right?). And it worked – I vividly remember gobbling down bowlfuls of butternut squash or carrot soup with black pepper and globs of sour cream. (more…)

  • Fig Galette

    Fig Galette Final

    Figs

If you’re wondering what time of year it is, it’s fig season. Although still steamy hot during the day, New England has begun its slow transition into fall. If you’ve noticed earlier nights, then you’ll probably also have noticed cooler mornings and evenings. As we are in late summer, figs have started to show up everywhere and they’ll keep us company until early fall.

  • Los Angeles to San Francisco | California

    Route 1

    Hey friends!

Leili here. I just got back from a mini family vacation to California, traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco and eating everything in between. And now I get to share all that good stuff with all of you wonderful people.

    View of the Bay

Not to rub it in, but it was pretty great. I had never been to California before, and I can now safely say that I’m a fan. Aside from the gorgeous weather and the “ooh”-and-“aah”-worthy scenic highways, the Golden State has a very calming air to it. Which explains why its culture appears to be one of perpetual leisure, I suppose. (more…)
