  • Soft Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread

    whole wheat sandwich bread

    I live for Sundays.

And I know you do too. Don’t lie. We lazy-folk take pride in our ability to put our feet up any chance we get, and we work hard to do things the easy way.

    browned butter
There will always be errands to run or parades to parade. But when Sunday rolls around, all I ever really want to do is sleep in well past nine o’clock and spend the day re-watching Game of Thrones. And then all that other stuff becomes instantly unappealing. (more…)

  • Skillet Chocolate-Swirled Espresso Banana Bread

Why is being physically graceful an admired trait?

I find it impossible. I drop things whenever I’m talking to someone important, I knock things over when I’m trying to be quiet, I trip more often than I’d like to admit, and I’m constantly bumping into people. And furniture. And walls.

    I also have a plum-like propensity to bruise, so you’d think I’d learn. I haven’t yet.

Maybe that makes me sound like a toddler, or a drunk. Or a drunken toddler. But I assure you, I am just a woman in her 20s trying to navigate through the world, incapable of bodily dexterity and perfectly okay with that.

    Happy Breakfast Week guys!

Across the country, Eater has been promoting its food-porniest breakfast finds.

Kind of makes me wonder who decides what week/day/month is assigned to each food holiday. There is literally a holiday for every single day of the year (today is National Almond Day, if you’re curious). Maybe anyone can just declare any day a holiday because they feel like it?

If that’s the case, I hereby declare every Friday to be Pajama and Cake Day. So wear your footsies to work today and bake yourself a cake. Because you’re worth it.

  • Three Veggie Frittata

    Frittata Dish

Some exciting things are about to happen – spring might come early, Game of Thrones is almost back, and I’ve just booked my massage for Valentine’s Day weekend. That’s right, I’m treating myself to the most romantic Valentine’s Day ever because I’m worth it and being single is currently fabulous.

Did that sound forceful? If it did, that’s not what I wanted – I just didn’t want to sound like a bitter old lady because I’m really not. I enjoy my Wei time more and more as I age gracefully. (more…)

  • Vegan Matcha Cake

    Matcha Loaves
Well, it looks like we just had our first blizzard of 2016. Hopefully this will be the only one of this winter because walking to work for the next few days will neither be fun nor fast. Hopefully it doesn’t turn too icy either. I once fell on my butt twice within minutes of each fall and it left a huge bruise on my right side. Perhaps I’m just complaining about walking.

Anyway, I hope you guys are staying warm out there with plenty of layers and hot chocolates. January is almost over and spring is hopefully not too far away. I will be going to New York this weekend and I’m crossing my fingers for clear skies and mild temperatures. If not, then I’ll just whine some more. (more…)

  • 5 Steps for Beginner Bread Baking

    pizza dough before

Making homemade bread is way easier than it’s made out to be.

Really. With just a few ingredients, very little hands-on time, and such a forgiving subject, making bread is technically easier than whipping up a batch of cookies. I’m here to tell you that no matter what bread recipe you want to use, you can play around with it and tailor it to get exactly the results you want.

And if you’ve never made bread before, hopefully this will assuage your fears.

    Let’s dig in. (more…)

  • Classic Monte Cristo with Cranberry Jam

cranberry monte cristoI don’t know about you, but I think I’m incapable of living in the moment.

To fight off some recent stress, I’ve been trying especially hard to be more mindful. And what I’ve come to learn is that all this “living in the now” stuff is a near herculean feat. (more…)

  • Loaded Grilled Cheese Egg In A Hole

First YolkGuys, I am not a morning person – whenever a peppy person goes on and on about how amazing it is to start their day early, I usually gape at said person for about two minutes. While I totally respect anyone who can rise with the sun and face the day enthusiastically, I also hate them a little. I am a child of the night – my brain has no function before 11AM. Even my mother says I would switch day and night when I was an infant. Sorry Mom.

    Eating

There is nothing sweeter than snuggling up with a couple pillows under layers of blankets and not waking up to an alarm. Alarms are stupid anyway – they literally ruin everyone’s dreams. Abandoning my warm bed is the last thing I want to do in autumn. But we all have to break our own hearts a little and try to be responsible human beings. However, that doesn’t mean our tastebuds have to be boring. (more…)

  • Chocolate Orange Challah Bread

    chocolate orange challah

    I apologize, friends.

zest and chocolateBecause I know you. I know that the knowledge that this challah bread exists will now eat away at you until you get the chance to make it for yourself. (Or at least until you can bribe your roommate/spouse/pet to make it for you so you can shove some in your face.) I know that one look at it already has you itching to get into your kitchen, and scanning the ingredients to see if you could get started on it right away, before any of the day’s other demands can be faced.
