  • Giant Cinnamon Roll with Caramelized Pears

    Skillet Cinnamon Roll with Pears

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a ‘put-on-your-fat-pants’ recipe. But seeing as I’m really excited for pear season and the days are supposed to be getting cooler, I think you need this one.

Buttery Skillet Cinnamon Roll with Caramelized Pears

I don’t think I have to do much convincing here. I mean, it’s a giant, buttery cinnamon roll. Who are we kidding? (more…)

  • Fig Galette

    Fig Galette Final

    Figs

If you’re wondering what time of year it is, it’s fig season. Although still steamy hot during the day, New England has begun its slow transition into fall. If you’ve noticed earlier nights, then you’ll probably also have noticed cooler mornings and evenings. As we are in late summer, figs have started to show up everywhere and they’ll keep us company until early fall.

  • Vegan Chocolate Doughnut Holes

    It’s Olympic season.

And I don’t know about you, but watching gymnasts kick some serious vault ass has got to be one of the top three forms of entertainment out there.

    vegan chocolate donuts

I’ve spent all week watching these extraordinary humans move their bodies in ways I know I will never be able to. I am not flexible enough to even touch my toes without bending my knees. And I couldn’t even stay standing on a balance beam, let alone do any fancy moves on it. (more…)

  • Chocolate ‘Chantilly’ Mousse

    rich chocolate mousse
I have an experiment for you.

If you’ve been with us for a while, you may have noticed I’m a bit of a baking nerd. Whether it’s figuring out hydration percentages in bread recipes, calculating the volume of cake batter a recipe will yield so I can bake it in a different pan, or pouring over Serious Eats’ extensive recipe-testing posts, I’m a sucker for any and all things having to do with food science.

    decadent chocolate orange mousse

Actually, when I think about it, I guess my nerdiness reaches far beyond the world of baking. I’ve read all the Harry Potter books at least a dozen times, and if you were to challenge me to a Lord of the Rings trivia game, you would almost certainly lose. In middle school, I was the only girl in my class who shot up her hand when the teacher asked who wanted to take the lead in dissecting frogs. I was, and still very much am, that kid.

  • Granita di Caffe con Panna {Espresso Granita with Whipped Cream}

granita di caffeYou need a pick-me-up.

Whether you’re mentally preparing for Game of Thrones tonight and feel too fragile thinking about the fate of Jon Snow to do anything too strenuous, or you just need a Sunday morning boost that’s a little more decadent than your typical black cuppa Joe, you need this.

    granita

Last summer I went galavanting through Italy and ate all the things. Check it out here, and also here, where I actually show you what real granita di caffe looks like from the famous La Cassa del Caffe Tazza d’Oro. When wandering the narrow cobblestoned streets of Rome, I got a little too used to walking around in the scorching hot sun with one of these in my hand. (more…)

  • Brown Butter Strawberry Pecan Blondies

gooey brown butter strawberry pecan blondies

You may have noticed that I’m crazy about pecans.

Or, if you’re a normal person who doesn’t spend all their time stalking me, you may not have.

    pecan strawberry blondies

But I do, I love pecans. They’re a pricey nut, so I don’t bake with them often. When I do, I always immediately consider moving to Georgia and becoming a pecan farmer. That’s a thing, right?

  • Skillet Chocolate-Swirled Espresso Banana Bread

    skillet espresso chocolate banana bread

Why is being physically graceful an admired trait?

I find it impossible. I drop things whenever I’m talking to someone important, I knock things over when I’m trying to be quiet, I trip more often than I’d like to admit, and I’m constantly bumping into people. And furniture. And walls.

    skillet marbled banana bread

    I also have a plum-like propensity to bruise, so you’d think I’d learn. I haven’t yet.

Maybe that makes me sound like a toddler, or a drunk. Or a drunken toddler. But I assure you, I am just a woman in her 20s trying to navigate through the world, incapable of bodily dexterity and perfectly okay with that.

  • Yeasted Orange Waffles & Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread

yeasted orange waffles and chocolate hazelnut spread

    Happy Breakfast Week guys!

Across the country, Eater has been promoting its food-porniest breakfast finds.

Kind of makes me wonder who decides what week/day/month is assigned to each food holiday. There is literally a holiday for every single day of the year (today is National Almond Day, if you’re curious). Maybe anyone can just declare any day a holiday because they feel like it?

If that’s the case, I hereby declare every Friday to be Pajama and Cake Day. So wear your footsies to work today and bake yourself a cake. Because you’re worth it.
