  • Deconstructed Guac Grilled Cheese

    Guac Grilled Cheese 2

Guys, I’m back with more cheese but I think you will be pleased. To start this cheesy story, we must go back in time to when I lived in London five years ago. While I was studying abroad, I discovered the savory goodness of the avocado. I know what you’re thinking: this girl must be out of her mind!

It’s true –  I didn’t know any better growing up and I always thought avocado was a bland tasting fruit that people needed to stop raving about, not unlike kale. But I love kale now. (more…)

  • Spring Veggie Couscous with Lemon Herb Dressing

    Veggie Couscous Writing

I’ve been waiting for this for months – next weekend, we get to wind the clocks forward and hold onto daylight a smidgen longer. No matter how old I am or where I am in my life, the day that we gain an extra hour of sun is still a very special day to me and brings with it a feeling of hope that is sometimes lost in the winter.

    Veggie Couscous 2

That one extra hour of daylight is everything I need to feel new again. I feel more motivated to run, eat well, and rest with the knowledge that spring is just a few blossoms away. Every spring seems different as I get older – I set new goals each spring before summer arrives. I set the goal to learn a new skill or come back to an old one each year. The warmer temperatures will also bring fresh local produce again. This time, I’m getting inspired early. (more…)

  • Chicken Fried Rice

    Chicken Fried Rice Final

Sometimes I get anxious about food – thoughts about dinner as I’m walking home from work can completely hijack my mind and I’m forced to confront the fact there’s not much I can do for dinner that night.

    Chicken Fried Rice Serving

Although dinner is my favorite meal, it can be a lot of pressure to cook most nights. More than once a week, I want to throw my blanket over my head to surrender and order dinner from my warm and cozy laptop whilst in bed. Don’t lie – you know you do this, too. (more…)

  • Tomato Sauce with Sausages and Mushrooms

    Tomato Sauce Final 2

January is halfway over. Isn’t that crazy? For me, the first month is always a bit confusing – we’ve eaten all these cookies and other feasts around the holidays and we’re expected to just go clean come the New Year. To add to that, it’s also the coldest month of the year. I try to eat healthy generally, but the wintry skies gently nudge me to stay at home and splurge on a hearty meal. You guys still following me?

    Tomato Sauce Final

I’ve never been a big believer in diets, but I do occasionally cave into peer pressure to eat cleaner than I usually do during January. But let’s be realistic here: all you want in the middle of winter is a huge helping of pasta loaded with cheese. Tell me I’m not alone here. (more…)

  • Sweet Cheeks Barbecue

While we would never claim to be Southern gals, we’re not immune to the occasional hankering for some rich Southern comfort food. When our cravings recently hit with full-force, we headed to Sweet Cheeks BBQ near Fenway Park – the best barbecue place in town.

Chef and owner Tiffani Faison (who was also the Top Chef runner-up from season one) opened this comfort food mecca back in 2011. We can now safely say she has realized her dream of creating a casual, warm place where you can enjoy great company and eat delicious, local, responsibly sourced food. All while experiencing that one of a kind Southern hospitality. (more…)

  • Artichoke and Asparagus Risotto & Chocolate Hazelnut Roulade…and a giveaway!

    Servingchoco hazelnut roulade1

Hello friends! We’re doing something a little different today, and sharing two recipes: a main dish and dessert. Because if a little is good, more is better.

The holiday season in Boston is always pretty magical – crunchy leaves on Thanksgiving to accompany the pumpkin pie, and plenty of snow on the ground to welcome Christmas and the New Year. No matter how cold it gets outside, though, sharing warm, home-cooked meals with family is always the highlight of the holidays. As cheesy as it sounds, we love feeling the love.

So we made these recipes with love, for you. Whether you have 78249395 crazy relatives or your family consists of just you and your cat, these are dishes made to share with those you’re closest to.

For these recipes, we’ve partnered up* with Colavita and Perugina, makers of some of the world’s finest olive oils and chocolates, respectively. Olive oil and chocolate are two of our most-used (and most-loved) ingredients, and we love all things Italian, so this partnership was really a no-brainer. And because we love you too, we’re giving you the chance to enter Colavita’s “Join Our Italian Holiday Table” sweepstakes to win a basket full of olive oil and chocolate goodies. Just click on the link at the bottom of this page to enter to win, and thank us later. (more…)

  • Cantonese Poached Chicken

    Cantonese Poached Chicken

There are few dishes that bring me back to my earliest memories of eating – almost all of them involved rice and some kind of soup. Growing up, my little brother and I had rice every night with our main dishes and there was almost always soup. My mom made soup every night – she believed soup is the cure and culinary medicine for any ache or fever. And you know what? I think she was right.

Aside from my short stature (I’m 5’3″), I can’t complain too much about my health. I have my mother’s cooking to thank for that – her dishes are uncomplicated, wholesome, and always delicious. That lady knew what she was doing and she certainly won my little heart over whenever she made this simple poached chicken. (more…)
