I like to pretend that I’m hard-working and up for any challenge, especially when it comes to this blog of mine. But it’s been three years now, and you deserve the truth: I’m really just a big ol’ lazy bum. (more…)

Peach Watermelon Caprese
I’m calling it – I’ve officially melted into the hot concrete in the hot city streets of Boston. I am frying like an egg and for the first time in my life, I don’t like that egg. Figuratively speaking. I’d be a weird little egg, especially fried.
All yolks aside, this heat wave is not doing me any favors. I can not run in this weather. It’s impossible to breathe and move around in this humidity. And like a true Bostonian, I know I’ll complain about the cold and wish for summer in just a few short months. By the way, I am not sorry for that yolk joke – I’m quite proud of it actually. This heat wave is not taking away my funnies.

Peanut Soba Noodles
You can never keep me away from noodles for too long. Our love is inevitable; no matter how people might try to tear us apart in the insufferable hot weather, I will still love my noodles. Because noodles can be served chilled. If I can’t enjoy a steaming bowl of ramen, then cold noodles are the next best thing.

Bacon Brussels Sprout Pasta Salad
Guys, I’ve been very bad lately and shopping and spending like Carrie Bradshaw in a Manolo Blahnik store. Except I don’t actually have that kind of dough, but I still find myself feeling extremely guilty whenever I check my bank account. I’m being a bad influence on Leili, too, but at least I’ll look fly while being an enabler. As my best friend Peter says, “I’m a baller on a budget.”
To compensate my recent spending habits, I made a pact with myself to stop getting take out. That means no more sushi deliveries at 11PM. And I am glad to report I’ve been pretty good with this new compromise. To add to that, I’m finally in my exercise groove again and I’m making healthy meals for myself. They don’t teach you this in school, but sometimes irresponsible spending leads to healthier habits, because no money, no takeout. (more…)

Roasted Vegetable Medley with Cranberries
Hello darling friends, I must apologize for the laziness that is lying ahead in this post.
In the midst of planning my family’s Thanksgiving dinner, I got a bit carried away into marshmallow heaven and realized I’d forgotten to add some fiber to the dinner. Perhaps you guys are having this issue as well. This recipe is a quick but delicious attempt to fix that problem.
Honestly, I admire the simplicity of this recipe – everything from the turkey and gravy to the mashed potatoes to the buttery desserts can be overwhelming. I lied, they’re all delicious and dreamy but sometimes I just want a balance on my favorite holiday so I can feel less ashamed about inhaling everything else on the dinner table. (more…)

Roasted Asparagus Salad with Dijon Dressing
I think it’s been a while since I’ve posted a salad recipe since I worry that it might be too simple and no one would be interested. Then I thought, ‘Why not? It’s summer and that’s what everyone is eating!’ Tell me I’m right. Either way, this salad is delicious and should not be ignored. Roasted asparagus, golden potatoes, perfectly cooked eggs, and a delightful Dijon dressing. Do I have your attention yet?
As with most fresh summer ingredients, I like to keep things simple and let the vegetables do all the work. My only job is to draw out the flavors and add a bit of heat. The less time I spend on prepping, the more time I have to eat and enjoy the outdoors. (more…)

Arugula Zucchini Pesto Quinoa Bowl
Here’s a whole lot of green comin’ atcha! What better way to celebrate the weekend?
I always make big plans for my free days or weekends, with the best of intentions. I say I’m going to clean out my closet, finally perfect my brown butter croissant recipe, or spend a whole day prepping meals for the following week. I never, ever do these things. Who do you think I am, superwoman? I usually end up sleeping in, lazily making breakfast, and then I sit around spending way too much time looking at trending recipes, or dream places I could one day live, or fantasy jobs I could one day have. Right now my ideal job is to be a recipe tester at Bon Appetit (but, I mean, whose isn’t. It’s like the unicorn of jobs).
By the time I finally get around to doing anything productive on weekends, half the day is gone and I have to rush around just to get all my necessary errands done. On days like these, I’m always relieved to have a quick, healthy dinner recipe I can pull out of my back pocket. Enter the mighty quinoa bowl. -
Sriracha Chicken Salad
Lately, my legs are adjusting to the long forgotten sensation known as sunshine. They’re happy to be out and I’m eager to get them into shape for beaches and skirts. I finally get to eat outside again and no one is taking that away from me for another five months.
Currently, I am waiting for invites to picnics at the park, or any kind of lunch invite, really. I’m not picky as long as I get to be outside soaking in the rays. My mind is already daydreaming of the Cape and other shenanigans. (more…)

Blueberry Basil Salad
I have an insatiable sweet tooth.
Over the years, I’ve experimented with putting sweet things where they didn’t quite belong. No one questioned a spoonful of sugar in tomato sauce, or a drizzle of honey on some oven roasted veggies, but I definitely raised some eyebrows when I put chocolate on a sausage and cheese pizza…more than once. (It was delicious, but haters gonna hate). Luckily, I don’t have to go putting chocolate in salads too, because nature’s got its very own sweet stuff.
I’m talking about fruit, guys.

Corn and Black Bean Salad
It’s been almost two months since my last run. At first I had some good excuses, but now I’ve finally come to accept that I’ve just been lazy (partly in thanks to Wei’s guilt trips – she’s got a knack for them). I could blame it on how busy I am, on how tired I’ve been lately, or on the changing weather. But let’s be real. I know I just need to get out the door before it’s too late and the snow starts piling up. Here in New England, that could be in less than a month…gah! So I’m not here to talk to you about apple pie cupcakes or pumpkin bread. I’m not about to tell you how great my homemade caramel sauce is, or how much Fall inspires me to bake up some giant warm cinnamon rolls. Yes, I love the crunch of auburn leaves under my boots, but I won’t bore you with all that today. Y’all are just going to have to wait, because I’m not letting Fall onto my mental doorstep just yet.
