  • Three Veggie Frittata

    Frittata Dish

Some exciting things are about to happen – spring might come early, Game of Thrones is almost back, and I’ve just booked my massage for Valentine’s Day weekend. That’s right, I’m treating myself to the most romantic Valentine’s Day ever because I’m worth it and being single is currently fabulous.

Did that sound forceful? If it did, that’s not what I wanted – I just didn’t want to sound like a bitter old lady because I’m really not. I enjoy my Wei time more and more as I age gracefully. (more…)

  • Homemade Pita Bread & Pita Chips

    pita chips from scratch

Alright guys. We’re a week away from the Super Bowl.

    buttery cinnamon pita chips

And I’ll be honest: I’m no football fan. I’ll watch it purely for, um, aesthetic reasons, but most of the time I’d much rather cozy up with a Seinfeld rerun.

I am, however, a huge snack lover. So if you invite me over for a football game and you promise me beer and some snacks, then I will become a fan of whatever the hell you want. And I will definitely make you some of these bad boys. (more…)

  • Vegan Matcha Cake

    Matcha Loaves
Well, it looks like we just had our first blizzard of 2016. Hopefully this will be the only one of this winter because walking to work for the next few days will neither be fun nor fast. Hopefully it doesn’t turn too icy either. I once fell on my butt twice within minutes of each fall and it left a huge bruise on my right side. Perhaps I’m just complaining about walking.

Anyway, I hope you guys are staying warm out there with plenty of layers and hot chocolates. January is almost over and spring is hopefully not too far away. I will be going to New York this weekend and I’m crossing my fingers for clear skies and mild temperatures. If not, then I’ll just whine some more. (more…)

  • 5 Steps for Beginner Bread Baking

    pizza dough before

Making homemade bread is way easier than it’s made out to be.

Really. With just a few ingredients, very little hands-on time, and such a forgiving subject, making bread is technically easier than whipping up a batch of cookies. I’m here to tell you that no matter what bread recipe you want to use, you can play around with it and tailor it to get exactly the results you want.

And if you’ve never made bread before, hopefully this will assuage your fears.

    Let’s dig in. (more…)

  • Tomato Sauce with Sausages and Mushrooms

    Tomato Sauce Final 2

January is halfway over. Isn’t that crazy? For me, the first month is always a bit confusing – we’ve eaten all these cookies and other feasts around the holidays and we’re expected to just go clean come the New Year. To add to that, it’s also the coldest month of the year. I try to eat healthy generally, but the wintry skies gently nudge me to stay at home and splurge on a hearty meal. You guys still following me?

    Tomato Sauce Final

I’ve never been a big believer in diets, but I do occasionally cave into peer pressure to eat cleaner than I usually do during January. But let’s be realistic here: all you want in the middle of winter is a huge helping of pasta loaded with cheese. Tell me I’m not alone here. (more…)

  • Cacio e Pepe

    simple cacio e pepe

    Simplicity.

It’s something we could all use a little more of.

  • Curry Potato Leek Soup

    Curry Potato Leek Soup Final

Happy Happy New Year! First of all, I hope you all had a wonderful time welcoming 2016 – I did it the old fashioned way by enjoying a bittersweet dinner at West Bridge’s last service and seeing Star Wars and being in bed before midnight rang out. Crazy stuff.

Secondly, why is Boston so cold all of a sudden? It was over 60 degrees on Christmas Eve and I actually wore a dress. One week later and I’m bundled up in my wool coat and boots whenever I can summon the energy to go outside and pray I don’t get blown away by the sharp winds. My body and closet are equally confused by the hot and cold temper of Mother Nature. Literally. (more…)

pesto monkey breadHappy New Year’s Eve, everyone!

This has certainly been one hell of a year. I could pull you aside now, and tell you all about the crazy year we’ve had at Yin and Yolk. I could gush about how proud I am of how far this little blog of ours has come. But I’ll spare you. Instead, I’ll just say that I’m thrilled that we’re still kicking, and that you (whether a faithful reader or a casual click) are here with us. We truly love you guys.

  • Sweet Cheeks Barbecue

    sweet cheeks outside

While we would never claim to be Southern gals, we’re not immune to the occasional hankering for some rich Southern comfort food. When our cravings recently hit with full-force, we headed to Sweet Cheeks BBQ near Fenway Park – the best barbecue place in town.

    sweet cheeks

Chef and owner Tiffani Faison (who was also the Top Chef runner-up from season one) opened this comfort food mecca back in 2011. We can now safely say she has realized her dream of creating a casual, warm place where you can enjoy great company and eat delicious, local, responsibly sourced food. All while experiencing that one of a kind Southern hospitality. (more…)

  • Crispy Roasted Potatoes

    Crispy Potatoes

Is it just me or did Christmas just show up out of nowhere? I believe the warm weather is to blame for this mind trick. I’m not complaining about this very charming December we’ve been having, but I did maybe forget what month it was and had to rush out to the shops with the other Christmas procrastinators. It was not a pretty scene.

    Crispy Potatoes Ingredients

Now that my very hectic shopping season is over, I can finally focus on the Christmas meal. What do people have on Christmas anyway? I’m never quite sure. People tell me it’s ham but I still want turkey but my squad informs me that’s so last month. (more…)
