  • Sriracha Chicken Salad

    Sandwich Stack

Lately, my legs are adjusting to the long forgotten sensation known as sunshine. They’re happy to be out and I’m eager to get them into shape for beaches and skirts. I finally get to eat outside again and no one is taking that away from me for another five months.

    Ingredients

Currently, I am waiting for invites to picnics at the park, or any kind of lunch invite, really. I’m not picky as long as I get to be outside soaking in the rays. My mind is already daydreaming of the Cape and other shenanigans. (more…)

  • Flourless Chocolate Cake

cake slicesMother’s Day is just around the bend, so I’m thinking it’s time to start getting my act together. My mother literally birthed me, and aside from being kind of horrifying to think about, that’s a totally incredible thing. So while I may not be the perfect child, I know that I owe my mama something – not only for the whole birthing thing, but for all the years that I’ve managed to stay alive. So here’s to you, mothers: an honest-to-goodness thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do. You’re all basically superwomen. The least I could do was make you a cake.

  • Sesame Veggie Soba

    Sesame Veggies

Despite a little wind and a few sprinkles here and there, spring has finally made its way into New England. No more snow, and days that only grow longer and longer until summer.

    Veggie Soba

I’m ready to jump into my sandals and race to the park for a picnic. In another week or so, I’ll also be racing to the farmers’ market to browse this season’s green offerings. There is no greater joy for me than celebrating the warm seasons with fresh produce and healthy living.

  • Blueberry Basil Salad

    salad plate

I have an insatiable sweet tooth.

blueberries1Over the years, I’ve experimented with putting sweet things where they didn’t quite belong. No one questioned a spoonful of sugar in tomato sauce, or a drizzle of honey on some oven roasted veggies, but I definitely raised some eyebrows when I put chocolate on a sausage and cheese pizza…more than once. (It was delicious, but haters gonna hate). Luckily, I don’t have to go putting chocolate in salads too, because nature’s got its very own sweet stuff.

    I’m talking about fruit, guys.

  • Creamy Tomato Bisque

    Bisque Bowl

One of the most exciting things about cooking is finding a recipe you love and then tweaking it around. Letting your intuition and taste buds guide you into new, but familiar territory. At the end of that culinary journey, you pleasantly find that your instincts have done well and created something spectacular.

    Bisque

A lot of my recipes are developed that way – cooking through other people’s works and then undoing it for my sake. I think that’s the heart of the creative process – acquire what skills you need and then unlearn all of that to build something new. It’s so exciting this way.

  • Caramelized Onion Pasta Sauce

    pasta egg
My absolute favorite thing to do in the kitchen isn’t just to bake or cook, or even eat (gasp!). What I truly love to do is to experiment. Sorry Mom, but I just really love to play with my food.

Because really, creating new recipes is so much fun. It’s a chance to channel your inner mad scientist. When I’m working on a recipe, I tweak one thing, try it again, take notes, tweak another thing, take more notes, cackle victoriously, tweak tweak tweak, eat eat eat. By the end I’m usually covered in butter and ready for a nap, but hopefully I’ve at least learned something new and created something delicious. Experimenting with baking is easier to me because all the ratios of ingredients can only be changed in certain ways, so I have more control over everything.

  • Lady Verona {Maple Cranapple Cosmo}

cocktail1Get ready, ‘cause we’re boozing it up today.

Sometimes it’s nice to have a little something sweet to reward yourself with, and although I’m all for turning to a sweet snack, it’s also a good idea to have a few drink recipes in your back pocket for when you want to celebrate life’s little victories…or for the days when it’s easier to face a cocktail than reality. • Miso Braised Pork Belly Noodles

Two BowlsValentine’s Day is near– it’s a faux holiday that makes us single folks feel bad. It’s not my favorite day of the year BUT lots of places make these incredible Valentine Day’s desserts and I always like to treat myself to a couple things. I am my own sugar momma.

    Final

However, dinner is a completely different story. Last year, Leili and I did Galentine’s Day and it was a complete disaster trying to book a reservation. We had dinner at 5:30 because we waited until last minute to look. This year will be different. (more…)

  • Chicken Broth

IngredientsI couldn’t write this post fast enough because I’m so excited to get to the recipe after this one. I’m making chicken noodle soup! Now, can you feel my giddiness? Before we get to the good stuff, I feel it’s important to introduce the most important foundation of chicken noodle soup: the broth.

    Pan

Be warned, this is neither the most intriguing nor the prettiest recipe, but I can guarantee a lot of flavor and a happy tummy. Chicken broth is so versatile and this recipe could be used for many other dishes and soups to come.

  • Ginger Scallion Wings

    Final

So the REAL winter is here. I was sure the winter vortex was going to bring White Walkers through the streets of Boston at those freezing temperatures. And if you didn’t get that Game of Thrones reference, please do yourselves a favor and go catch up before the new season starts. I won’t judge and you can enjoy binge watching while nibbling on these wings.

Wings Rack 2Another big event is just coming up – it involves beer, dancing, and touchdowns. See, I don’t follow football or usually watch the Super Bowl, but I do enjoy the food that surrounds this great American holiday. To me, it’s enjoying delicious bar food in the comfort of your own sweatpants. These ginger scallion wings are great for feeding others and yourself.

RawThe wings are so easy to make and the sauce can be prepped ahead of time. Bonus: It also warms up the entire kitchen to distract you from the bitter wind chills outside. (more…)
