    I’ve been waiting for this for months – next weekend, we get to wind the clocks forward and hold onto daylight a smidgen longer. No matter how old I am or where I am in my life, the day that we gain an extra hour of sun is still a very special day to me and brings with it a feeling of hope that is sometimes lost in the winter.

    That one extra hour of daylight is everything I need to feel new again. I feel more motivated to run, eat well, and rest with the knowledge that spring is just a few blossoms away. Every spring seems different as I get older – I set new goals each spring before summer arrives. I set the goal to learn a new skill or come back to an old one each year. The warmer temperatures will also bring fresh local produce again. This time, I’m getting inspired early. (more…)

    Happy Thanksgiving, all!

    If you’re anything like us, you’re far from perfect. Even when it comes to today’s Super Bowl of food holidays, not every dish is impeccably planned, and not every place is meticulously set. We’re no strangers to last minute scrambling for Thanksgiving recipes that are both classic enough to appease your traditional relatives, and novel enough to excite and entice you. (Why make pie when you can make gooey chocolatey cakes? Exactly.)

    So, for all you last-minute-cooks out there hectically searching for that perfect vegetable side dish that will complete your dinner, or those homemade dinner rolls that will make your mama proud, we’ve compiled a list of the Thanksgiving recipes we’re crazy about.   • Three Herb Mushroom Pasta

    I think I’m having one of those weeks where I get massively lazy and refuse to shop or cook. The hazy summer informs me I should have a slushie or ice cream instead. It’s a titanic effort to leave the beach or park to initiate any adult responsibilities. You guys know what I’m talking about, right?

    So I go the farmers’ markets for inspiration and they never disappoint. This time of year, they are lush with vegetables, flowers, fruits, and energy. This mushroom pasta has been a staple of mine for a long time, but I added some garlic scapes for good measure. If you haven’t noticed, I have a special relationship with garlic from green ‘til bulb.     I have a really bad habit of eating late at night. Well, I’m a night owl so you can’t really blame me. One day I’ll kick this bad habit and learn to appreciate being a morning person.

    That being said, I also like cooking late because it is like a form of meditation for me. Piecing ingredients together from the fridge is the best kind of cognitive activity. Preparing ahead of time to cook later at night is even better.
